The starting point

Start with the records you have.
We’ll check what is missing.

You don’t need a perfect folder—or a diagnosis—before reaching out. First, we establish the periods, accounts and available records.

Missing months

Activity has happened, but the books have not kept up. We identify the periods and accounts that need to be brought up to date.

Numbers that don’t match

There are entries in the system, but the balances or reports raise questions. We review the records to understand which corrections and reconciliations belong in the project.

Not sure where it stands

You have files, statements or an existing accounting system—but no clear starting point. Tell us what is available. You do not have to diagnose the bookkeeping issue before asking for help.

Before the work begins

Know what the project includes.
Agree on the work and fee.

We agree on the periods and accounts covered, records needed, fees, communication and expected timing. You review and sign the agreement before work begins.

Within the agreed scope

Historical categorization and reconciliation, chart-of-accounts review, opening-balance validation, cleanup assessment and a tax-ready handoff for the agreed periods.

Separate work, separate agreement

Tax returns, amendments, payroll filings and ongoing monthly bookkeeping are not automatically included. Legal advice is outside this service.

Working through the records

Check your books against your records.
Resolve errors and missing details.

We compare the covered accounts with available statements and supporting records. You provide context for unclear transactions and respond to requests for missing information.

See which questions still need answers.

We list missing receipts, statements and other records so you know what still needs an answer. Incomplete records or delayed answers can affect the scope and timetable.

Already filed a tax return?

Tell us before work begins. Where corrections touch a filed period, we discuss coordination with the tax preparer before finalizing changes.

The handoff

Understand where
the books stand.

Review the agreed reports, what changed and what still needs attention. Then decide how you want to keep the books current.

  1. Your records
  2. Review & corrections
  3. Agreed handoff

A reviewed handoff includes

  • Agreed reports for the covered periods
  • A summary of the work and corrections
  • Remaining questions and next steps

Monthly support is a separate choice, not an automatic commitment.

Your first conversation

What to discuss on your first call.

Be ready to describe these basics. You do not need to send financial documents to book; we confirm the requested records and sharing arrangements before collection.

  • The periods you believe are behind
  • Your accounting software, if any
  • The business accounts involved
  • Statements or reports you can access
  • Any filing or financing deadline
  • Any affected returns already filed

Questions about catch-up bookkeeping.

Do I need to organize everything before calling?

No. Start with the periods you think are behind, the accounts involved and any deadline. We’ll explain what information is needed for the assessment and project. You do not need to send financial documents to book.

Is catch-up the same as cleanup?

Catch-up addresses missing periods of bookkeeping. Cleanup addresses issues in records that already exist. A project may need both; we confirm what applies before agreeing on the work.

How far back can you go?

Tell us the earliest period involved and which statements and records are available. We confirm whether the work is a fit; this page does not promise every historical period or situation can be reconstructed.

How long does it take?

Timing depends on the periods, accounts, transaction volume, complexity and completeness of the information. Your responses to questions also matter. We discuss a realistic timetable after the initial review; a booking does not guarantee a deadline.

What if I have missing receipts or statements?

Tell us what is missing. We identify the information needed and any limits it creates. Unsupported items are flagged for clarification rather than silently treated as resolved.

Does this include filing or amending my taxes?

No. Preparing, filing or amending a return is a separate engagement. If the work touches a period already filed, we discuss coordination with the tax preparer before changes are finalized. Explore tax services

Do I have to sign up for monthly bookkeeping?

No automatic monthly commitment is included in the catch-up project. If ongoing support makes sense, we agree on its scope, fees and start date separately. Explore monthly bookkeeping

How do I share my records?

We confirm the requested records, access arrangements and sharing method before collection. Do not put passwords, Social Security numbers or financial documents in booking notes.
